General

Great question — Here's a few reasons:

  • I have a unique style and sense of taste, together we can make something that will stand out from the crowd.
  • I'm a highly skilled designer that has been freelancing for over 7 years.
  • I've gained industry awards and am a certified Webflow Partner.
  • I do branding, design, and webflow development so you can get your website up and running without having to invovle other vendors.
  • I prioritize organized design systems (clean class structure, component system, accessiblity and responsiveness).

Agency's can definitely do high quality work but there's a few reasons why going directly to a freelancer can be more effective.

  1. Price - Often agencies building the quality of Website's that I make won't offer projects below $20k because they have higher overhead and are working with larger clients. On top of that, a lot of agencies will outsource work to freelancer's (like me, I've worked with over 15 different agencies) while charging a markup on top of the freelancers cost.
  2. Communication - Because agencies need higher volume to be profitable they tend to have a more chaotic environment and it can make communication difficult, the project manager you're assigned to will be handling all your requests but then they get added to a designer or dev's qeue and that can cause delays or miscommunication. With me its a one stop shop where I'm taking care of your design and development needs making it a much simpler process.

Generally no — my focus is in branding, web design and webflow development. That being said I'll occasionally help out existing clients with other types of projects if I have the availability and interest in it.

One of the great things about Webflow is that it doesn't need a lot of upkeep work to keep your site up and running (eg plugins crashing, security vulnerabilities etc.) That being said, your website should grow with your business and depending on your needs you might want help to build out new components or pages.

For sites I've built I offer two website update options:

1. As you go: If you need help on a given month I can make updates at an hourly rate and will bill you at the end of the month if you needed any hours.

2. Retainer: If you want more consistent availability and help with making updates we can setup a custom retainer to make sure your site is getting consistently prioritized.

This is one of the big questions for any kind of developer in the modern era. Personally I have a bunch of ethical dilemma's about the use of AI but also understand that if you don't learn how to use AI you'll quickly get left behind in the web industry.

I use AI for a select set of tasks that help me to keep my efficiency high, without sacrifing the standard of quality I keep myself to.

I currently use AI to help with:

  • Custom code (interactions, advanced functionality etc.)
  • Sitemaps
  • Wireframing
  • Working with datasets (eg, making changes to CMS collections)

I do not use AI for:

  • Website design or Creative work.
  • Building out new Webflow components

Pricing

Because of the wide variety of projects I take on I don't have distinct package based pricing. After we meet to talk through your project I'll send you a custom project proposal that will include details on scope pricing and timeline. That being said, I generally have a minimum fee of $5k with most projects ending up between $8k-$14k.

For 90% of projects I'll do a 50% upfront deposit and the remainder when I transfer the website to you (or hand off other assets if not a development project). For longer projects I'll occasionally split payments into more payments.

Webflow

Currently I exclusively build websites using Webflow. I've used other platforms in the past but have found that Webflow fits all of my needs and my clients needs, it allows me to deliver really high quality sites that are accessible, interactive, and responsive while still allowing clients to be able to easily make edits or even build out pages when they need to.

I've tried out most of the Webflow frameworks out there but I use Lumos for 95% of my builds. It adds a lot of really helpful developer functionality while still making it easy for clients to be able to make changes to their site. If you're curious about Webflow frameworks or why I don't use Client-First check out this blog post where I compare the biggest frameworks out there and describe their pros and cons.

With Webflow development there's a large extent where you get what you pay for. While there are definitely cheaper developers out there most of them are not using Component-First systems (which provide a lot of value to you as a client, allowing you to much more easily make changes to your site and even build out whole new pages while staying on brand).

I've had a lot of Client's come to me with existing Webflow sites and I've had to recommend that we completely rebuild them because the backend was a complete mess (even though you might not be able to tell from just looking at the live site).

The sites I build will be incredibly well organized, easy for you to grow with, and will use all of the current best practices and latest Webflow features available.

While in our modern era that's definitely a possibility, in my experience AI built websites are not as creative, engaging, or easy to mainting as Webflow sites. If you're a single person company that's quite tech savy I'm sure you could make it work, but the lack of permissions control, not having a clear interface if you want to just make small changes can definitely be a difficulty (especially as AI token costs continue to rise to match their real computational expense). If you're curious about my thoughts on AI websites you can read this blog post.
